5 to Thrive
Case for Change
Building Davie County's Future - One Legacy at a Time.
Why Now? Why Us? Why You?
A historic shift is happening in Davie County — and across the nation. Over the next 10–20 years, our community will witness one of the greatest transfers of wealth in history. As baby boomers and older generations pass down assets, it’s estimated that hundreds of millions of dollars will change hands in Davie County alone.
How much of that wealth will stay in Davie County to serve local families, students, churches, and nonprofits?
If just 5% of that transfer stayed local through the 5 to Thrive planned giving initiative, it could increase the Foundation’s capacity by an additional $29 million, funding more grants, scholarships, and community initiatives to meet both today’s and tomorrow’s needs!
5 to Thrive is a bold initiative by the Davie Community Foundation to capture just 5% of that incoming wealth and invest it into permanent endowment funds that will benefit our community forever.
How it works
Step 1: Decide What Matters Most
Think about the causes, programs, or people in Davie County that mean the most to you, whether it’s education, faith, youth, the arts, or community development. Your gift can support any area you care about.
Step 2: Choose How You'll Give
You don’t have to be wealthy to leave a legacy. You can:
• Include the Davie Community Foundation in your will or trust,
• Name the Foundation as a beneficiary of your IRA, insurance policy, or investment account, or
• Make a Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD) directly from your IRA during your lifetime.
Step 3: Create a Legacy That Gives Back
Your gift becomes part of a permanent endowment that continues to grow and give forever. Each year, earnings from your fund provide grants and scholarships to strengthen Davie County, generation after generation.
Legacy Stories
The Dennis Redman Memorial Scholarship
Through the generosity and foresight of Sam and Nancy Redman, their planned gift to the Davie Community Foundation will provide an annual $10,000 award through the Dennis Redman Memorial Scholarship for a deserving Davie County student to attend a North Carolina state-supported college or university. This enduring legacy demonstrates the remarkable power of planned giving, transforming a lifetime of love for community into ongoing opportunities for future generations. Thoughtful estate planning allows donors like the Redmans to make a meaningful difference that extends far beyond their lifetime, ensuring their values and compassion continue to shape Davie County for years to come
The Brandon Mitchel Davis “Fly High” Scholarship
Through Arlene Anderson’s thoughtful planned gift to the Davie Community Foundation, the Brandon Mitchel Davis “Fly High” Scholarship will continue to provide a $1,000 annual award supporting students in their pursuit of higher education in memory of her nephew.
When Brandon’s life ended far too soon in 2019, Arlene Anderson and his father, Eric Davis, established the scholarship to honor Brandon’s kind heart, his love of soccer and motocross, and the joy he brought to those around him. This scholarship ensures that his spirit and his family’s wish for others to “Fly High” in success will continue to inspire and encourage future generations of students.

Why now?
If we wait, this opportunity disappears.
The transfer of wealth is already in motion. Every day, estate plans are being finalized, properties are sold, and assets are passed to the next generation - often without a local legacy attached. The time to act is now, before those dollars are lost to taxes or relocated to national charities with no ties to Davie County.
What will your legacy support?
When you leave a portion of your estate to the Davie Community Foundation, your gift becomes part of a permanent fund that supports:
Scholarships for Davie County students
Grants to nonprofits meeting urgent needs
Church & community funds serving your neighborhood
Leadership initiatives that address future challenges
Field-of-interest funds in areas like mental health, housing, or youth development
