Application Access Request

The S.U.R.F. (Students Understanding Real Futures) Board provides grant funding to support youth-led projects that make a positive impact in Davie County. These grants are designed to empower young people to identify needs in their community, develop solutions, and take an active role in carrying out meaningful projects with the support of an adult advisor and a sponsoring organization. 

If you are a student or youth group with an idea to benefit youth in our community, we encourage you to apply! 

Eligibility and Basic Requirements

To be eligible for funding, all projects must meet the following criteria:
  • The project must impact youth in Davie County
  • At least three to five youth must be involved in planning and carrying out the project. Youth are defined as students in 6th–12th grade 
  • Youth must have an adult ally (age 21 or older) from a sponsoring organization to supervise the project
  • A S.U.R.F. Board representative will be assigned to your project to oversee the grant process.
  • Grant checks will be issued to the sponsoring organization, not to individuals. Please confirm in advance that your organization can accept grant funds
  • Any unused funds must be returned to the Davie Community Foundation
Note: Requests do not have to be for large dollar amounts. Some projects may require minimal funding but greater commitment of time and talent.

Allowable Expenses

  • Materials and supplies for events or activities, including but not limited to: 
      • Space rental
      • Awards
      • Food
      • Sports or recreation equipment
      • Audio/visual equipment
      • Games, books, art supplies or similar items
    • Postage, printing, copying, or design costs
    • Transportation costs (such as van rental)

Expenses Not Covered

Grant funds may not be used for:

  • Projects that are planned and led entirely by adults
  • Fundraisers intended to benefit a club, group, or another organization
  • Salaries or stipends for youth, adult allies, or sponsors
  • Expenses not directly related to the approved project
  • Alcohol, tobacco, drugs, or related promotional items
  • Contributions made directly to an individual
  • Eagle Scout or Gold Award projects

Adult Advisor Responsibilities

The adult advisor must agree to the following:

  • Provide guidance and supervision as needed for successful project completion
  • Allow the grant check to be issued to the sponsoring organization (checks cannot be written to individuals)
  • Provide oversight of grant expenditures and ensure that any unspent funds are returned to Davie Community Foundation.
