Dianne and Allen Snipes Family Scholarship
In 2006, Dianne and Allen Snipes created a permanently restricted endowment that provides financial support for graduates of Davie High School that are pursuing a secondary education.
The Dianne and Allen Snipes Family ScholarshipFund was borne out of the Snipes’ commitment to the importance of education for one’s long term-success, and for their life-long love of The United Methodist Church which they have served faithfully in the mill village of Cooleemee.
Over the years, support for the fund has spread to their three children Rik, Betsy and David, as they have added to the annual distributions that are made as students pursue their academic dreams.
Dianne, a graduate of Davie High School and the North-Carolina School of Banking, began her career in banking as a part-time teller for what was then Durham Bank & Trust. Upon her retirement in 2000, she was serving as Vice President and branch manager for Sun Trust Bank in Cooleemee.
Allen’s career was in construction following graduation from Cooleemee High School. Having started as a laborer and brick mason in the early 1960’s, he went on to work for several regional general contracting firms and ultimately was the founding partner of two firms. Upon his retirement he was a Vice President at Davie Construction.
“We love our town of Cooleemee as well as the people of Davie County. It is out of this love that we want to make a difference in the lives of young people, hoping that in some small way, we can help the recipients of the scholarship limit their educational debt that can often overwhelm many graduates.”
The Dianne and Allen Snipes Family Scholarship is available to a high school senior or college student for general educational pursuits. Preference is given to students who attend a Methodist Church
