C.W. and Barbara Allen Scholarship
Both C.W. and Barbara Allen grew up in Davie County and have lived here all their lives. CW graduated from Mocksville High School and Barbara from Shady Grove High School. They first met at the Mocksville Picnic in 1955 and were married in November of 1956. The Allens enjoyed 51 years of marriage and raised three daughters : Tammy Fleming, Kimberly Davidson, and Kandace Plott. They also feel blessed to have eight grandchildren.
Barbara has been an active volunteer with Davie County Schools, the Davie County Hospital Foundation for more than 30 years, and Farmington Medical Center. She has assisted with the voting and election process as well as worked with the Davie County School System through Federal Grants, retiring in 1995. She worked in real estate sales with CBTR. C. W. was a dairy farmer and owned a grading and excavating business. He semi-retired in 1997. Being an avid golfer, he loved spending time on the green.
In 2005 CW and Barbara were honored with a gift to create a fund at the Foundation. When CW passed away in December 2007, the family directed memorials to the CW and Barbara Allen Fund. In the spirit of CW’s favorite pastime, several golf tournaments have been held in his memory since then to raise money for the scholarship.
By directing memorials to the fund and raising money through golf tournaments, family and friends have remembered CW and in turn helped Davie County people. He loved the community and Davie County people – and Davie County people loved him. He will always be remembered by many for his gentle smile and unconditional love of others.
The C.W. and Barbara Allen Scholarship is available to a male or female Davie High School senior athlete. Consideration is given for academic achievement, involvement, and respectable standing in the community.
