For Greg Simpson, the journey from a Davie County student to a practicing urologic surgeon has been shaped by persistence, resilience, and the support of a community that believed in him. A 2005 graduate of Davie County High School, Greg continued his education at Wake Forest University, where he majored in Health and Exercise Science, a foundation that ultimately led him to a career in medicine.
After graduating from Wake Forest University in 2009, he went on to earn his medical degree from the West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine in 2015, followed by a 5-year residency at the Medical College of Georgia at Augusta University.
Today, Dr. Simpson is the managing partner of a private urology practice in Augusta, Georgia, where he helps to deliver expert urologic care from minor procedures and in-office counsel to robotic surgery.
Greg was the 2005 recipient of the Davie County Crosby Scholarship, a scholarship awarded to a high school senior exhibiting academic excellence and exceptional community service. “The Davie County Crosby Scholarship helped make it possible for me to attend Wake Forest University. Because of generous donors’ contributions, I get to live out my dream every day.”
Hard work, dedication, and treating everyone with respect are lessons he credits to helping him get to where he is today. Those values not only helped guide him through college and medical school but continue to shape how he leads today, both in his office and in his community. Dr. Simpson has taken time to mentor several high school students with an interest in medicine, paying forward the encouragement he once received.
“Stick with it,” he advises current high school and college students. “Life is never short of challenges. Don’t give up.”
In his free time, he enjoys golfing, exercising, outdoor sports and spending time with his wife, Leah, and their fur babies, Woody and Homer.
Dr. Simpson also credits his parents, David and Jane Simpson, for their constant support along the way. “I would like to thank my parents for all they have sacrificed to get me to where I am today.”
As for what’s next, Dr. Simpson is focused on growing his practice and continuing to make an impact both professionally and personally. No matter how far his career takes him, he hasn’t forgotten the roots that helped him rise. “Thank you to the Davie County Community Foundation and all the donors who make these scholarships possible,” he said. “Your support truly changes lives.”
