Did you know…
Did you know that the Dwiggins, Boger, and Shamel families aren’t the only families supporting Davie County through a Community Fund? There are many who wish to leave their legacy through a fund named for their family at the Davie Community Foundation. Thankfully they understand the importance of unrestricted or slightly restricted dollars for Davie!
Many visionary leaders established Community Funds in the first ten years of endowment building at the Davie Community Foundation. The following named funds were established in those early years:
Sadly, too many of these community leaders in philanthropy have passed away. Their legacy lives on in our county though as their names are remembered every time their fund awards a Community Grant to a Davie County organization or project!
In 2012, earnings from the funds listed above supported eleven grants for Davie projects totaling $23,420. Those grants helped children become better readers through summer camps, digitized microfilm in the Public Library History Room, supported mentor matches through Big Brother Big Sister, helped middle school students transition to the next grade level, provided funding to start a GO FAR program, supported the Arts at Davie County High School, and provided early support for the Backpack Program.
Each of these awards was possible because your neighbors, friends, or family members chose to make a lasting gift that would make Davie County a better place! We believe every Community Grant is a current investment in someone’s future.
As the Davie Community Foundation approached its 25th year of existence in 2013, the Board of Directors issued an unparalleled challenge to the community. Be sure to read more about it in next week’s article! The Davie Community Foundation Inc. “inspires philanthropy to strengthen Davie County for present and future generations.” The Foundation is working to promote a spirit of giving in our community and build a permanent endowment that is invested forever.
