Habitat for Humanity of Davie County received a $8,000 Pearls of Empowerment grant. Habitat for Humanity has undergone a significant revitalization during the past three years. They completed two homes since 2022, as well as 19 critical home repairs. They are now planning to start a new home in September 2025 with a completion goal of January 31, 2026 and a budget of $200,000. This home is for a local elementary teacher, who is the sole provider for herself and two young daughters. Although many community volunteers and the homeowner provide 80% of labor, grant funds are needed to cover basic building materials such as block, lumber, siding, roofing, HVAC, windows and insulation as well as services of a few key subcontractors. Objective evaluation includes completion of the house within the projected time frame and within the budget, engagement of 200+ volunteers, and engagement of the new homeowner in “sweat equity’ and new mortgage payments.
