Request of $35,000 from COGNITION (Year 1 of 4 with total $110K)
Capacity Building for COGNITION, an interactive learning space and Makerspace in Downtown Mocksville. COGNITION had just opened its doors as COVID-19 hit and shut it down! COVID-19 caused serious challenges in safely reopening the center, retaining staff, and generating revenue. COGNITION is requesting diminishing capacity building funds in a 4-year grant to give the new non-profit time to become sustainable. (Year 1: $35,000, Year 2: $30,000, Year 3: $25,000, Year 4: $20,000, total: $110K)
Request of $20,270 from Davie County Schools
Leadership Development and Coaching for School Principals, Year 2 is designed to strengthen the second group of 6 school principals (ultimately student outcomes) through leadership development and coaching. During the COVID-19 pandemic, we have seen the importance of leadership—leadership at every level and in every field. Now, because of COVID-19 and the achievement gaps that we face and must be overcome in the months and years ahead, there has never been a more important time to strengthen school leadership.
Request of $45,000 from Davie Family YMCA, YMCA of NWNC
Before and After School Academy goal is to improve the Academic and Social and Emotional outcomes for 100 Elementary school students in Davie County for the 2021- 2022 school year. It will provide out-of-school time care for students at five of the six elementary schools in Davie County. This project will provide relationship building and program alignment for at-risk students, provide targeted student academic interventions, improve Social and Emotional Competencies through positive peer and adult interactions, and increase access to out-of-school time programming for economically disadvantaged students and families.
Request of $20,000 from IGNITE DAVIE (Year 3 of 5)
The IGNITE DAVIE College Promise Program will provide last dollar scholarships for students who live in & attend school in Davie County. IGNITE DAVIE will pay tuition, required fees and a stipend for books for students to attend Davidson-Davie Community College full-time. Students may pursue a Certificate, Diploma, or Associate/Transfer Program. In the first semester, 71 students attended Davidson-Davie Community College and took advantage of IGNITE DAVIE!
Request of $2,789 from Milling Manor Inc.
Milling Manor Inc. would like to obtain certification for one of MMI’s Managers in CPR and First Aid Training, the basic adult CPR/First Aid training kit, training storage and tracking from the Electronic Medical Records (Therap Training System) and provide an array of training resources, Open Futures Learning. The goals of this Staff Development Expansion Project is to produce competent staff who provide quality, creative and life enhancing services to individuals with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities served by Milling Manor, Inc and utilize an efficient system for tracking and reporting all training. The 24 individuals supported by Milling Manor will be the most impacted by this project. Staff members will have higher job satisfaction and marketable skills.
Request of $9,000 from Smart Start of Davie County
Nurturing Parenting Program will provide parenting classes to families in Davie County with children prenatal to five years of age. The program engages parents who are striving to be their children’s first teacher. The objective of the program is to promote zero tolerance for the maltreatment of children. Each class is designed to educate while strengthening the protective factors of families in the community.
Request of $10,674 from William R. Davie Elementary School
Many students do not have the opportunity, resources, accountability, or desire to continue learning in the summer months. The goal of the Summer of Fun Learning Academy at WRD is to help these students avoid academic regression in reading and mathematics. Students will come to an engaging summer camp (not summer school) full of activities and lessons that are exciting to work on reading fluency, reading comprehension, vocabulary, writing skills, math and science. The academy will help provide learning experiences to encourage children to become life-long learners.
