Davie County High Class of 2014 graduate and Community Scholarship recipient, Sam Linville, attended North Carolina State University and earned a degree in Graphic Design. During high school, Sam was president of S.U.R.F Board, a group of high school students who raise money and award grants to youth-led projects in the community. His leadership involvement during high school transitioned into his role within the NC State College of Design’s student government, where he served as IT Liaison and President.
His college career was sprinkled with many interesting internship and employment opportunities such as Assistant Coordinator for NC State’s K12 Design Camp, Design Intern at Lexercise, Interaction Design intern at MaxPoint, and Visual Design intern at Red Hat. One of Sam’s academic experiences was in partnership with UX designers and accessibility engineers at SAS, a leader in business analytics software and services. During this course, he developed a high-fidelity prototype of software designed for visually impaired scientists who create and consume dense data models as part of their research.
Multiple art classes at Davie High sparked Sam’s interest and played a part in his collegiate exploration of graphic design. His college internship with Red Hat, an enterprise software company, led to Sam’s current role as a User Experience Designer working on Red Hat’s integration with the public cloud. He describes his role by saying that he is an architect for computer applications, drawing blueprints, and then working with engineers to make those blueprints come to life! In 2020, Sam will attend Stanford’s Graduate School of Business to obtain a Master’s in Business Administration. We look forward to keeping up with Sam as he continues to accomplish great things!
