The profession of nursing requires a certain caring, genuine, vibrant, and patient personality. We could think of no one better than scholarship recipient, Emily Walker, to pursue such a profession. Emily received the Rotary Club of Mocksville Scholarship. After her graduation from Davie County High School, Emily attended Clemson University and earned a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. During college, Emily worked as a nursing assistant at AnMed Health Medical Center in Anderson, South Carolina. She also came back to the Davie County area to complete an externship program at Forsyth Medical Center through Novant Health.

After her college graduation, Emily moved to Virginia Beach with her husband, Luke Walker, who is also a Davie Community Foundation scholarship recipient. He received the Davie High Class of 1976 Scholarship. Luke attended the University of North Carolina at Charlotte where he studied Civil Engineering. He now works as a project engineer with Crowder Construction. While in Virginia Beach, Emily worked as nurse in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. The two got married in June of 2019 and recently moved to Charlotte, North Carolina to live and work.
Emily is now working in the Atrium Health Medical Intensive Care Unit. She hopes to attend The University of North Carolina at Charlotte’s nurse anesthetist program in the future and complete their doctorate program. Earning this degree would allow Emily to work as a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist and assist patients in the operating room. The pair enjoy fishing, visiting the lake or beach, and spending time with their golden retriever, Finely, who joins in on their many adventures. We are excited to follow Emily and Luke as they accomplish great things within the fields of nursing and engineering!
