The campers at William R. Davie’s Summer of Fun Learning Academy and Kinder Camp learned a lot through hands-on activities. Some campers went on a bear hunt while others searched for evidence of Bigfoot. The students read many books, practiced math facts, wrote campfire stories, sang songs, and danced. One day the students had a special visitor, a reading dog. Sully, a Great Dane, came and spent the day with the students. They loved it!
Three high school volunteers helped during Camp WRD. The volunteers read with students, set up the computers, and motivated the students to do their best. On the last day of camp, the staff and students spent the morning sliding down a huge, bouncy water-slide and making s’mores. Needless to say, WRD’s Summer of Fun Learning Academy and Kinder Camp were a big hit this year.
This is an example of how community donations are working through the Davie Community Foundation in the form of community grants. Every dollar donated is added to the fund it is designated for. You can be part of the solution by donating to the Community Impact Fund at any time, in any amount. Your gifts make projects like this possible!
