The Community Foundation of Davie County Scores Touchdowns for Education

It still feels like summer, but at The Community Foundation of Davie County we are thinking about cooler days, football season and the future of the young people of the county.  We can all agree that the final touchdown in a game is thrilling, but even more exciting and rewarding are those touchdowns made in life.  At the Foundation we believe that a college education is one of the most important touchdowns a young person can score.  But those touchdowns don’t always happen for many young members of our community.

On Friday, October 19, 2007 at the Davie vs. Reynolds football game the Community Foundation will launch its first Touchdowns for Education event.  For every touchdown scored by the War Eagles, our Touchdown Team members will each donate one hundred dollars for the Foundation’s Community Scholarship Fund. It will be an exciting night for our team members and volunteers.  Many of the Foundation’s board members and volunteers will be on hand to staff the concession and support other activities at the game.  They won’t be hard to miss in their CFDC Touchdown shirts.  You can help by cheering the War Eagles on to victory with a high scoring game.

We are pleased to announce that our first round draft picks for our Touchdown Team are in, they are: George Brown/Southern States; Jeff Seaford/Mid South Drilling, Inc.; Grady McClamrock, Attorney at Law; Phillip Fuller/Fuller Welding and Fabricators, Inc.; Bart Crater/Crestwood Farms; Carl Carney/Davie Construction Co.; George Webb/Hillsdale Mini Storage; and Bill Junker/Trailers of the East Coast.

The Community Foundation’s Scholarship Program was organized in 2004.  Since that time 15 scholarships representing almost $1 Million have been endowed for administration by the Foundation.  Between 2004 and 2007, 101 scholarships have been awarded to 87 scholars attending 2-year and 4-year colleges and universities all over North Carolina. Any county resident age twenty-one or younger is eligible to apply for a scholarship through the Foundation.

The businesses have demonstrated that they too, believe the greatest gift a young person will receive is the gift of education.  It is not too late for you to become a member of our Touchdowns for Education Team.  If you or your business would be interested in becoming a Touchdowns for Education team member, please call The Community Foundation of Davie County at 336-753-6903.  Don’t miss your chance to be part of our all-county team.  It’s all about teamwork.  It’s all about community.  Together we can score the most significant touchdown, a chance for a student to get a college education.  For more information about Touchdowns for Education or other Community Foundation of Davie County opportunities please contact Jane Simpson at the Foundation or visit our website at www.daviefoundation.org.
